AFDCS elects board of directors

Jeff Hayward, Patrick Morgan and Eric Wile have been elected as new members of the American First Day Cover Society board of directors, society president Lloyd de Vries said in a Dec. 19, 2023, press release.
Incumbent Foster Miller was also reelected to the board of directors. All four candidates ran unopposed.
Hayward, a life member of the AFDCS, is also active in the American Topical Association.
Morgan writes articles for First Days and Topical Time, the publications of the AFDCS and the ATA, respectively.
Wile is a cachetmaker and also writes for First Days.
Miller has been on theAFDCS board of directors since 1997. He also serves as chair of the membership and sales departments.
The society’s election committee received 217 ballots; Miller had 209 votes, Wile 203, Hayward 200 and Morgan 194. Chris Calle, Mark Gereb, Michael R. Rosenthal, Catherine O’Conner, Walter George, D.A. Lux and Lisa Foster each received one write-in vote, and one ballot was disqualified.
Four seats on the AFDCS board of directors are elected on a yearly basis for three-year terms beginning Jan. 1.
The society president, editor of First Days and the general counsel also serve on the board, if not otherwise elected, along with the 12 elected members.
The AFDCS directors are not compensated for serving on the board nor reimbursed for their travel expenses.
