Dedication ceremony for Christmas Madonna and Child stamp Sept. 17 in Indianapolis

A dedication ceremony for the United States Christmas Madonna and Child forever stamp will take place Sept. 17 at the Indianapolis Museum of Art at Newfields.

A dedication ceremony for the United States nondenominated (73¢) Christmas Madonna and Child forever stamp will be held Sept. 17 at 11:15 a.m. Eastern Daylight Time at the Indianapolis Museum of Art at Newfields in Indianapolis, Ind.

The museum has the oil-on-canvas painting, created by the workshop of Sassoferrato (1609–85), shown on the stamp in its collection.

The dedication ceremony is being organized by local postal officials and Newfields and is free and open to the public. Doors open at 11 a.m. for the museum, and all attendees will need to pass through metal detectors on entry.

The dedicating official for the event is Christi Johnson-Kennedy, USPS district manager for the Greater Indiana District.

Museum director Belinda Tate, along with Newfields curators, will participate in the ceremony.

A ceremony program will be available at the dedication event along with a special pictorial postmark featuring the Newfields logo.

The USPS will issue the Christmas Madonna and Child stamp in double-sided panes (booklets) of 20. The first-day ceremony will take place Sept. 14 in Washington, D.C.
