A United States 2024 $5 King Eider junior duck stamp (Scott JDS32) has been discovered with the back inscription inverted.

The image nearby is of the variety both front and back. The normal inscription direction is also shown.

Scott catalog editors have decided to list the error as Scott JDS32a, and it will appear in the 2026 Scott Specialized Catalogue of United States Stamps and Covers.

Scott editors received the inverted back inscription error in an order placed via the U.S. Postal Service’s Stamp Fulfillment Services in July.

Scott editors purchased the normally printed stamp in August at the Great American Stamp Show from the federal duck stamp office’s booth at the show.

Junior duck stamps are issued by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and are listed only in the Scott U.S. Specialized catalog following the listings for the U.S. Department of the Interior’s migratory bird hunting and conservation stamps, more commonly known as federal duck stamps.

“The Federal Junior Duck Stamp Conservation and Design Program began in 1989 as an extension of the Migratory Bird Hunting and Conservation Stamp,” the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service said. The first junior duck stamp was issued in 1993.

The junior duck stamps sell for $5 each at the U.S. Postal Service’s online postal store and select national wildlife refuges. The money collected is used for conservation education, including awards and student scholarships.

The 2024 junior duck stamp features artwork by artist Emily Lian of Oregon.
