In early August the United States Postal Service held a brief media unveiling for the Carnival Nights commemorative forever stamps.

The unveiling took place Aug. 1 at the Indiana State Fairgrounds in Indianapolis, Ind.

The stamps were issued June 6 in Biloxi, Miss. At that ceremony North American Midway Entertainment participated with a Ferris wheel that included a large Carnival Nights stamp banner on it.

After the first-day ceremony the company continued its summer touring schedule and continued to display the banner on the Ferris wheel.

The Carnival Nights stamps were designed by USPS art director Greg Breeding who was in Indianapolis for the issuance of the Dungeons and Dragons stamps earlier in the day, which is why Postal Service decided to do the media event.

The photograph nearby of the unveiling shows Breeding at left, USPS Indiana district manager Christi Johnson-Kennedy, North American Midway Entertainment corporate marketing director Lynda Franc, and Indianapolis postmaster Keith Blane.

A television crew from Indianapolis attended the event along with philatelic media.

After the unveiling of a poster of the stamp, Breeding was interviewed by the television crew. He also signed autographs on panes of the stamps for a couple of the attendees.

After Biloxi, the complete tour schedule for the Ferris wheel were stops at the Marion County Fair, Indianapolis, Ind., June 28-July 7; Northern Wisconsin State Fair, Chippewa Falls, Wis., July 10-14; Indiana State Fair, Aug. 2-18; and Du Quoin State Fair, Du Quoin, Ill., Aug. 23-Sept. 2.

Linn’s Stamp News’ story on the Carnival Nights forever stamps was published in the June 3 issue.
