Philatelic Foreword by Jay Bigalke

The American Philatelic Society and Linn’s Stamp News are hosting two Postcrossing meetups at the Great American Stamp Show in Hartford this August.

The show will take place Aug. 15-18 in Hall AB of the Connecticut Convention Center, 100 Columbus Blvd., Hartford, Conn.

A meetup is an informal gathering of postcard-writing enthusiasts who use the Postcrossing website. Socializing and signing postcards are the basics of the event.

The Postcrossing concept involves sending postcards to random individuals around the world, and in exchange, receiving postcards back from different random people.

The first meetup is planned for Thursday, Aug. 15, from noon to 2 p.m. in Room 21, immediately following the United States Postal Service’s 11 a.m. ceremony for the new Pinback Buttons forever stamps.

The second meetup is planned for Friday, Aug. 16, from noon to 2 p.m., also in Room 21, immediately following the USPS 11 a.m. ceremony for the new Autumn Colors forever stamps.

For the meetups, Linn’s Stamp News will produce two postcards, available to attendees, related to both of the stamp issues being released at the show. The designs of the postcards are revealed in this column.

The first postcard shows three buttons and a notepad. The second shows a photograph of a fall scene reflected in the water.

There is no cost for the postcards, but we request that you let us know in advance how many postcards you would be interested in so we can produce them accordingly.

You can make the request directly on the Postcrossing event page online. Additionally, a request can be sent to me at jbigalke@amosmedia.com or to my attention at Linn’s Stamp News, Box 4129, Sidney, OH 45365.

We had an awesome turnout of around 50 people at the Postcrossing meetup in Cleveland in August 2023, and we look forward to what this year’s event will bring.
