New Modern U.S. Mail columnist for Linn’s

Oct 24, 2023, 7 AM
Richard L. Beecher is the new Modern U.S. Mail columnist for Linn’s Stamp News. Starting with the Nov. 6 issue, his column will appear in the first issue of each month.

Philatelic Foreword by Jay Bigalke

The Nov. 6 issue of Linn’s Stamp News includes a restart of the Modern U.S. Mail column previously written by Tony Wawrukiewicz (1943-2023), who wrote the column for us since 2004.

The focus of the Modern U.S. Mail column often has been one cover and a detailed analysis of the postage rates for that cover.

Starting with the Nov. 6 issue, Richard L. Beecher will pen the column. It is scheduled to appear in the first issue of every month.

Beecher has been collecting stamps since he was a boy growing up in New York.

With his early experiences in philately, Beecher developed an interest in complex, long-running United States definitive (regular-issue) series, with an emphasis on rates and uses of stamps on commercial mail.

Though he has an interest in a few of the stamps of the Liberty series, his collection begins in earnest with the Prominent Americans series of 1965 and continues to the latest new issues.

These include the Americana series of the 1970s, the long-running Great Americans and Transportation series, the American Design series of the early 2000s, and the most recent Fruits series.

Beecher is a member of a number of U.S. and international philatelic societies, including the American Philatelic Society, United States Stamp Society and the Plate Number Coil Collectors Club.

He is also active in Postcrossing and assisted Linn’s with our recent event at the Great American Stamp Show in Cleveland, Ohio.

Beecher currently lives in British Columbia, Canada, and works in finance.
