USPS adds stamp for former first lady Betty Ford to 2024 program

A surprise addition to the 2024 United States stamp program was announced March 4 by the White House.

The U.S. Postal Service will issue a stamp for former first lady Betty Ford (1918-2011).

The unveiling is to take place March 6 at 4 p.m. the White House.

First Lady Jill Biden will be joined by Postmaster General and Chief Executive Officer Louis DeJoy, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation Dr. Joseph Lee, and Mrs. Ford’s daughter, Susan Ford Bales.

The event will be open to pre-credentialed media and livestreamed online at WhiteHouse.Gov/Live.

Ford was born April 8, 1918, in Chicago, Ill. She died July 8, 2011 at age 93.

The design of the stamp or when it will be issued is unknown. Shown nearby is a 1977 portrait of Ford from the White House collection.
