Faroe Islands, Martin Mörck and epic engraved stamp issues for stamp show

Philatelic Foreword by Jay Bigalke

Great American Stamp Show 2023 in Cleveland, Ohio, is coming up Aug. 10-13. Details about the show can be found on the American Philatelic Society’s website at www.stamps.org. We will also provide a story on the show in Linn’s Stamp News when the dates get even closer.

We wanted to mention again a big highlight for the show for us and hopefully for stamp collector attendees. Norwegian-Swedish artist and master engraver Martin Mörck’s talents will be celebrated with two events at the Great American Stamp Show both commemorating No. 1,000 milestones.

Thanks to the efforts of a prolific collector of Mörck’s works, Armagan Ozdinc, and sponsorship of travel expenses by Linn’s Stamp News, Mörck is planning to attend the Great American Stamp Show.

For those keeping score, hopefully the third time is the charm. The previous two attempts to bring Mörck to stamp shows in the United States failed to materialize because of pandemic travel restrictions in 2020 and 2021.

So two souvenir sheets featuring his handiwork will be issued at the Great American Stamp Show 2023.

The Faroe Islands’ 1,000th stamp will be issued Aug. 10 at a 2 p.m. ceremony. The stamp is in a souvenir sheet of one.

Then, on Aug. 11 at 2 p.m., Mörck’s No. 1,000 stamp will be issued in another Faroe Islands souvenir sheet.

The two souvenir sheets will be available for purchase at the Posta Faroe Islands’ booth No. 616 at the show. Linn’s Stamp News booth No. 614 is located next to it. Mörck will be available to sign autographs throughout the show. Additionally, Linn’s is producing a postcard that will be available at no cost to be autographed by Mörck.

A limited number of the July issue of Scott Stamp Monthly will also be available at the show. This issue features an article by Ozdinc on the Faroe Islands, a place he has visited recently as a Faroese stamp collector.
