Union calls for Donahoe’s ouster

Postmaster General Patrick Donahoe earned his postal credentials, along with former Postmaster General John E. “Jack” Potter, by resolving a mail delivery crisis in Washington, D.C., in the early 1990s.

But meeting in Chicago, members of the American Postal Workers Union’s July convention called for Donahoe’s replacement.

“Hey, Hey, Ho, Ho, Donahoe’s got to go,” chanted APWU President Mark Dimondstein as they launched a “Dump the Postmaster General” campaign.

“We charge Donahoe with slowing down the mail, undermining service and demolishing tens of thousands of good jobs by closing processing plants,” the union chief said.

Since Donahoe is appointed by the agency’s board of governors, which has endorsed his closing policies, it isn’t likely that the union protest will force the postmaster general’s replacement.
