USPS to hold Priority Mail, Express Mail rates steady

Rates for Priority Mail and Express Mail parcels in the United States will remain unchanged, the U.S. Postal Service said in a Jan. 26 filing with the Postal Regulatory Commission.

However, international rates for Priority Mail International parcels will increase 6.8 percent, and rates to Canada will be zoned.

Priority Mail Express International will increase 6.7 percent.

The higher prices will become effective April 28 if the commission approves the increases, the USPS said in a news release.

“Unlike other shipping companies, the Postal Service is not implementing new dimensional weight charges with this pricing proposal, continuing its commitment to deliver the best value for customers,” the release said.

The Postal Service noted that its parcel business grew by 8.1 percent in the last fiscal year, a bright spot in a period that has been marked by continuing declines in first-class mail volume.

It said it hopes the new pricing plan will allow it to grow its parcel service.
