The Wiscopex 2024 stamp show featured the iconic QWERTY keyboard layout on a pictorial postmark, paying homage to one of Wisconsin’s most enduring contributions to modern technology.

Designed by Christopher Latham Sholes in the 1860s, the QWERTY layout revolutionized typing by arranging keys in a manner that reduced typewriter jams, a common issue with early models.

Named after the first six letters on the keyboard’s top row, QWERTY quickly became the standard layout for typewriters and later for computer keyboards.

Wiscopex 2024, held May 4-5, celebrated Wisconsin’s rich history of innovation. The show cover lists a diverse array of inventions that originated in the state, including the blender, surfboard, Little Free Libraries, roll toilet paper, workers’ compensation, kindergarten, seat belt law, ice cream sundae, garbage disposal and many more.

To obtain the postmark, address your request to:

WISCOPEX POSTAL Station, Postmaster, 99 W. Second St., Fond du Lac, WI 54935- 9998, May 4-5.
