Jersey flag on post & go labels

Jersey Post has partnered with Great Britain’s Royal Mail to introduce its own computer-produced self-adhesive postage labels called “post & go.”

The first labels show Jersey’s flag. In place of a denomination, a service indicator is printed in black at upper left on the label at the time of purchase.

The labels went on sale in Jersey and at the Stampshow show in London Feb. 19.

Sally Diamond of Jersey Post said: “We launched Jersey Post & Go with an exhibition machine in London so that we can gain the valuable feedback we need from this select audience, before making a decision regarding a mobile machine based in Jersey. The Jersey flag was issued from the new J001 machine alongside Royal Mail’s Union Flag.”

The right side of each label includes the country name, a silhouette of Queen Elizabeth II in white and Jersey’s flag in color.

The flag features a diagonal red cross, called a saltire, and the badge of Jersey on a white field. The badge shows the three leopards of Normandy on a red shield, topped by a Plantagenet crown.

This flag was adopted June, 12, 1979; proclaimed by Queen Elizabeth II Dec. 10, 1980, for use in the Bailiwick of Jersey as the island’s flag; and first officially hoisted April 7, 1981.

Jersey Post is using Royal Mail machines to produce the labels, and the specific machine used is reflected in the identification number at lower left on the label. The words “Jersey Post” also are repeated as a background on the left side of the label.

Six service indicators are available: local letters, local large items, United Kingdom letters and United Kingdom large items, all up to 100 grams; and Europe and international letters, both up to 20 grams.

True North designed the labels. The preprinted elements of the labels were produced by Walsall Security Printers using the gravure process. Each label measures 56 millimeters by 25mm.
