Chicagopex, Ameristamp Expo Nov. 17-19 in Itasca, Ill.

The Chicago Philatelic Society will present its Chicagopex show Nov. 17-19 at the Westin Chicago Northwest, 400 Park Blvd., Itasca, Ill.

Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Admission and parking are free.

The show will include a bourse (sales area) of more than 75 dealers, plus the United States Postal Service and the United Nations Postal Administration; an exhibition of nearly 300 frames of philatelic material; and a philatelic literature competition.

In addition, there will be a youth booth with free stamps and supplies.

Chicagopex 2023 will include the Ameristamp Expo in partnership with the American Association of Philatelic Exhibitors.

The single-frame Champion of Champions, selected among the best single-frame exhibits from U.S. World Series of Philately shows held during the prior year, will be awarded. The annual AAPE single-frame team competition will be held as well.

As Chicagopex is a World Series of Philately show, the multiframe grand award winner will be eligible to compete in the Champion of Champions exhibition at the Great American Stamp Show in Hartford, Conn., Aug. 15-18, 2024.

Chicagopex 2023 has a full schedule of presentations and speakers.

Two events will take place on Friday at 11 a.m. American Philatelic Society executive director Scott English will host a town hall meeting, and an American First Day Cover Society presentation called “Expanding Your Collection and Exhibit” will be given by Tim Wait.

On Friday at 2 p.m., Robert Benninghoff of the Collectors Club of New York will give the presentation “Ireland 1914: How Civil Unrest in Ireland Helped Cause a Great War in Europe with Germany,” and at 4 p.m., John Hornbeck of the Collectors Club of Chicago will talk about “Netherlands Point Cancels.”

The AAPE will offer an open forum on exhibiting on Saturday afternoon beginning at 3 p.m.

The following groups will meet at the show: the American Revenue Association, American First Day Cover Society, Chicago Philatelic Society and Germany Philatelic Society Chapter No. 5 on Saturday; and the Illinois Postal History Society on Sunday.

Also on Sunday, the North Shore Philatelic Society will deliver a presentation called “Duchy of Modena: Municipal Franchise Markings 1814-1852.”

The catered awards banquet will occur Saturday at 7 p.m. Tickets must be purchased in advance ($75 each).
