Jersey Post to show toy trains manufactured by Hornby on six stamps to be issued March 24.

Jersey Post will picture Hornby model trains on six stamps to be issued March 24. Two of the stamps are part of the multination Europa series with the theme of traditional toys.

Jersey Post reports that it worked closely with design agency True North and Hornby Hobbies Ltd. to produce the stamps, adding that the designs “feature actual artwork used to produce Hornby train set boxes.”

The trains depicted on the six stamps are the British Pullman, the GWR (Great Western Railway) passenger freight, the Flying Scotsman, the Cornishman, the mixed freight train and the Caledonian Belle. The Europa logo appears on both the 62 pence and 82p stamps.

Hornby was founded in 1901 by Frank Hornby, who applied for a patent for his invention called “Improvements in Toy or Educational Devices for Children and Young People.” The company introduced toy trains in 1920 and its first electric toy trains in 1925.

Today, Hornby has more than 650 items in its current range.

Jersey Post says, “Hornby train sets and models still delight children and adults alike, proving that the model train continues to be one of the most loved, desired and successful of all traditional toys.”

The stamps will go on sale March 24 at post offices on the island of Jersey and will be available though Jersey's philatelic bureau.
