Are you attending World Stamp Show—NY 2016?

May 4, 2021, 2 AM

Although still 10-months away, the buzz surrounding World Stamp Show–NY 2016 to be held next May in New York City is beginning to feel palpable.

The show committee e-blasts are becoming more frequent, and each is packed with tidbits sure to whet the appetite and raise the pulse of any collector who is planning to attend. Dealers are signing on, potential exhibitors have mailed in their applications, and various societies are reserving their tables. We're well on the way.

As is (thankfully) typical for a philatelic event of this magnitude, the United States Postal Service plans to issue a set of stamps to commemorate the event, and the planned design has already been released. The stamps themselves will be issued at the American Philatelic Society Stampshow in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Aug. 20-23.

I realize that this is technically a new issues blog, so we're stretching the limits a bit here by looking at a stamp issue of the future, but the response to the design has been quite mixed from what I've heard from fellow collectors and from what I've read online.

For example, readers may want to take a look at the Stamp Collecting Forum where comments on the design fell well short of being complimentary.

To my eyes the design seems rather Spartan and represents a missed opportunity to properly celebrate this once-every-10-years philatelic extravaganza. What do you think of the design?

Are you planning to attend World Stamp Show—NY 2016 and, if so, for how many days?

For those attending, please be sure to stop by at the Linn's booth to say hello. Until next time, happy collecting!
