Details on the 2024 commemorative stamp program for Great Britain’s Royal Mail have been made available.

As reported in the Jan. 29 issue of Linn’s, the program started Jan. 11 with 15 Spice Girls stamps marking the 30th anniversary of the pop group.

A Feb. 1 issue will commemorate weather forecasting, and a Feb. 20 issue has the title of Viking Britain.

A March 12 issue will showcase the age of the dinosaurs. Royal Mail previously issued dinosaur stamps in 1991 (Scott 1387-1391) and 2013 (3228-3237).

On April 16, Royal Mail will have an issue to mark 100 years of commemorative stamps. Great Britain issued its first commemorative stamps (Scott 185-186) April 23, 1924, to coincide with the start of the British Empire Exhibition at Wembley.

The children’s animated television series Peppa Pig will be the subject of a May 16 issue. The show first aired May 31, 2004, and Royal Mail previously showed the eponymous pig on a stamp (Scott 3258) in a 2014 set of Children’s Television Characters stamps.

A June 20 issue will honor the 60th anniversary of the Red Arrows, the Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team. Previous Royal Mail stamps relating to the Red Arrows include a 2008 stamp (Scott 2587) and a 2018 souvenir sheet (3710) issued as part of a set marking the centenary of the Royal Air Force.

On July 25, Royal Mail will commemorate the fantasy tabletop role-playing game Dungeons & Dragons, which players have been enjoying since its creation 50 years ago in 1974.

The Tower of London will be featured in an Aug. 13 issue. Previous Royal Mail stamps showing this historic castle include a 1978 stamp (Scott 831) and a 2008 stamp (2593c).

Royal Mail gave the title of Porridge to a Sept. 3 issue. Made from boiling ground grains in milk or water, porridge has satiated appetites for centuries; however, this title more likely relates to the television series Porridge, which aired for three seasons from 1974 to 1977.

Two animal-related issues occurring in 2024 include one on June 6 featuring dogs and a Sept. 26 issue on the subject of spiders.

On Oct. 17, Royal Mail will continue its Music Giants series with an issue honoring The Who, a rock band formed in London in 1962. The band has sold more than 100 million records worldwide and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1990.

Royal Mail’s Christmas issue will be released Nov. 5, and the 2024 program will end with a Nov. 30 issue marking the 150th birth anniversary of Winston Churchill, who has been honored on several previous Royal Mail stamps, starting in 1965 (Scott 420-421).

The 2024 program is tentative and subject to change.
