Safe driving campaign cancel features USPS Next Generation Delivery Vehicle
Philatelic Foreword by Jay Bigalke
The new United States Postal Service Next Generation Delivery Vehicle appears on a new sprayed-on postmark that likely went into use nationwide in mid-March.
The postmark corresponds with a national safe driving campaign that started March 12.
“Postal Service employees drive our nation’s roads every day, providing a vital service, to deliver America’s mail safely. It is something we strive to do 365 days a year,” said USPS employee safety and health awareness manager Leeann Theriault. “We encourage the public to stay alert when around postal vehicles, and together, we can protect our drivers and everyone else on the road. This will reduce risks and ensure that everyone, including our employees, make it home safe.”
The campaign highlights key points on how the public can help with vehicle safety, including: “Pay Attention to Our Vehicles,” “Check for Blind Spots,” “Avoid Distracted Driving,” “Don’t Block Our Vehicles,” “Why This Matters” and “Let’s Be Clear.”
The postmark example pictured nearby is from the Milwaukee, Wis., distribution center and is dated March 13.
The cancel has a design showing the vehicle with wavy bars behind it. The text above reads “Keep Safety in View as We Drive for You!” and the text below reads “#USPSVehicleAwareness.”
What is also interesting to me is that the new vehicles are starting to appear in use after I first saw one at the National Postal Forum last June. On a recent road trip, I saw two parked behind the main post office in Terre Haute, Ind. Both were visible from the interstate highway.Connect with Linn’s Stamp News:
